On Saturday, August 6th, the Alpharetta Rotary club will mark its 25th year as part of the 64th annual Old Soldiers Day Parade.  Joel Canada and Randy Schiltz are the parade organizers for the club and are doing an excellent job of getting the float decorated, participants driving “topless” (convertible) vehicles organized, and a cook out planned for the Rotary family and their friends at Wills Park after the parade. The Club members, family and friends will work together to create a beautifully decorated float which will be carrying Alpharetta Rotary’s Grand Marshal for this year, Chris Weeber.  “As a ten year member of Alpharetta Rotary and one of many military veteran members of the club, I am honored to be a special part of our club’s Old Soldiers Day Parade contingent this year, said Chris Weeber.”

Weeber graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1966 and upon graduation he entered the United States Air Force and served from 1966 to 1972.  He served in the Vietnam War as a pilot. He flew over Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam as a forward air controller in the OV-10 and completed over 200 combat missions. Weeber received, among other decorations, the Air Medal with 11 Oak Leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Chris later enjoyed a successful career with Delta Air Lines and retired in 2003. Jason Binder, President of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta said, “I am honored that Chris Weeber will be our Grand Marshal for the day because he is deserving of this recognition. The Rotary club members thanks Chris for his service to our country.  I love that the Rotarians, their families and friends will be in the parade having fun, celebrating and fellowshipping together for the day.”

Chris Weeber, the Grand Marshal, will be riding on the float and strung along behind will be a line of decorated “topless cars” (convertibles) which will showcase an awesome presence of Rotarians honoring our country’s war veterans and recognizing their service to our country.
