Summary: Alpharetta Rotarians are supporting the SmarterMe Saturday programs that offer free or affordable, high-quality tutoring to children in grades K-8 who are performing below grade level in Math, Reading, and Writing. During the academic year, volunteers tutor children every Saturday for our remediation assistance and during the school week we help in a more personalized setting with homework, test prep and some enrichment activities. Certified lead teachers and teen volunteers work with students in small groups for an intensive focus on remedial skills within the Georgia Performance Standards. We hope to build foundational skills and remediate the weaknesses in literacy and mathematics for students to experience increased success as learners in the classroom, bridging the achievement gap. NGF was founded in December 2007, with a goal to foster a community where children and youths are able to reach their full potential and become contributing members of society. The main issue addressed by NGF is literacy and math education, particularly in the disadvantaged segments of the community.
