Meals by Grace, Inc. is a program of The Bridge and is a 501c3 non-profit ministry focused on providing food support through multiple programs to children and families in need.  The families are recommended to the program by school social workers, childcare center directors and poverty trained counselors.  One of these programs takes place Sunday afternoons.  A group of volunteers set up various stations/assembly lines for sorting clothing and food for families they serve.  Registered families provide a list of preferred food items and volunteers fill a shopping bag with pantry staple foods for the family.  After the bag is filled, the goods are placed in a bin along with meat, bread, desserts, and other items for the families.  The goods are then delivered by volunteers to the families.

This process takes place each Sunday afternoon at Midway United Methodist Church from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  This past Sunday, a group of Alpharetta Rotarians joined over 300+ volunteers in this effort.  The Rotarians joined the other volunteers to assist with volunteer registration, unloading dry goods, sorting clothes, and helping out in the kitchen.  Kirk Driskell, Alpharetta Rotary President said “With over 100 members in our Rotary Club, we have many members volunteering for different organizations all over Alpharetta.  I want to thank our club members, John Hipes, Karen Hipes, Heather Honeycutt, Cathy Shanley, Deanna Driskell and Sandra Kinney for giving their time this afternoon, and think this is another great service opportunity for our members to demonstrate the Rotary motto of “Service above Self.”
