“Be the exchange student you want people to talk about when you leave. Be nice. Be kind. Be amazing. Make an impression. You're only here for one year. Make it count.” – Sophia Gomez

We have two very exciting parts to out meeting this week. First, we will be treated to a visit from Sophia Gomez, our Rotary Youth Exchange student for 2018-2019. She will be giving us a presentation on her year in Paraguay. The second part of our meeting will be a celebration of our past year and the induction of the new board that will lead us during the upcoming year.

This Week’s Speaker:

Sophia Gomez
Rotary Youth Exchange Student
Paraguay
2018-2019

Sophia is a student at Chattahoochee High where she was active in Musical Theater and Orchestra programs. She loves to sing, dance, play violin, guitar, and ukulele. Outside of music, her passions are writing, drawing, and going on adventures! Her mother went to Brazil as an exchange student from 86-87, and raised Sophia talking about her experiences and how much she loved the program, so when they found out that Rotary had started the program here in Georgia, they both became very excited to start a family tradition. I am sure we will all enjoy hearing about Sophia’s new adventures!

Passing the Baton:

This is an exciting time for Rotary clubs around the world as we all get ready to kick off our new Rotary year. We talk a lot about what Rotary is and how to share that understanding with others. One of the things we need to make sure we share is that the clubs are the heart of Rotary. All that is done by Rotarians around the world starts with what is done in a club.

While our club is widely known for its energetic meetings and fantastic breakfasts, we are also known for the many worthwhile projects that we undertake for the benefit of our community. There are many needy people throughout our community and the world whose only hope will come from Rotary.

I am proud to be a Rotarian and to be part of the family of Rotary. It has been my privilege and pleasure to have been your president this past year. It will always be one of the best years of my life. I cannot thank the club enough for giving me such an opportunity.

I would also like to congratulate each of the new Board members. Our fellow club members have shown their confidence in you by electing you to your respective positions. I have already seen the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment that you bring to the Board. I am sure the next year will be a fantastic one for the Rotary Club of Alpharetta!
