Subject: Special Pops Tennis Thank You!

It may be raining today, but Special Pops Tennis athletes are still basking in the memory of playing tennis with you all  in the sun last Saturday as the attached picture shows! We hope you enjoyed getting back on the courts as much as we did. Thank you to those returning members who have supported this event over the past 2 years, and thank you to the first-timers – we hope you’ll be back! And we hope you all now know a little bit more about the diverse group of people our program serves. The afternoon could not have been more perfect for kicking off our program year and our 10th anniversary! We are always grateful for your financial support, but we especially value the time you spend every year with these individuals who benefit more than you know from your interest in and support of their efforts to play tennis, make friends and live life.

For those interested in knowing more about our program, I invite you to browse our website at www.specialpopstennis.org
All of our training academies (see locations on the website) are starting up this month. The academies are free of charge. We work with all levels from beginners to advanced competitive play. Many will be preparing to compete in tennis with players from all over the state at the Special Olympics Summer Games at Emory, May 29-30. Others are learning the fundamentals and still others are enjoying the social aspects of  playing tennis. We work with children and adults with intellectual disabilities of all kinds.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our program. Tennis skills are secondary to a volunteer’s passion for making a difference in someone’s life. Volunteer opportunities range from on-court instruction to partnering with an athlete at one of our tennis events (the Summer Games, the USTA-sanctioned SPUD doubles league, our annual Fall Classic Adaptive Tennis tournament) and other off-court roles. All are explained on the website. Please feel free to contact me or Jim if you’d like more information.

Please pass this along to others who were there but whose emails I do not have (Jeff and Angie Nelms). Have a great weekend!
