"A Rotarian Easter"

In honor of Easter, I would like to take this opportunity to share the story of a Rotarian Easter.

It was the Friday before Easter (Good Friday) and the Rotarians gathered for their meeting full of good cheer and good news about service to share.  It was a special day for all, as visitors and guests from other clubs filled every chair.  Promptly, President Kirk approached the front of the room to direct the meeting and get everyone to take a seat.

As everyone lined up for breakfast, President Kirk announced a special group project as part of the meeting that day.  Everyone was surprised, as no prior notice was given.  Was it a service project similar to when we packed backpacks or had Kirk brought a special guest with a gift to share?
A few minutes later, the special guest was there.  The Easter Bunny arrived no less, and announced to the group “after breakfast, outside for a Rotary Easter Egg Hunt!”  Everyone was surprised and amazed, aren’t Easter Egg hunts reserved for the kids?

When they assembled outside with the Easter Bunny there, they were given baskets and set off to find their Easter surprises.  Once everyone had found all the eggs, they gather to see what the Bunny had put in there.  And to their surprise and fascination, the eggs were each filled with service projects Rotarians had done, both locally and around the world.

The Easter Bunny said as he hopped out the door, “The eggs are to remind you of all the great things Rotarians do each and every day around the world.    These are examples of “Service above Self”, the true Rotarian spirit.”
