The Rotary Club of Alpharetta has donated $1,000 to the Shop with a Cop program sponsored by the Police Athletic League (PAL). PAL works with “at risk” youth from 8-18 years of age providing many valuable programs throughout the year. Examples of their programs include: afterschool, tutoring, music, boxing and fitness, summer camp, mentoring, leadership, literacy, basketball, soccer, fundraising events and Shop with a Cop.

Shop with a Cop provides each youth participant $100 to spend on family, friends and themselves for the holiday season. This program is funded by community donations and will have 109 kids participating this year. The kids will be escorted individually throughout Windward Wal-Mart with a policeman or fireman. They are there for the kids to help with advice and keep up with their dollars spent to make sure they spend it all. This is a wonderful event and provides a lot of kids and their families with the opportunity to enjoy the holiday season.

Alpharetta Rotary loves helping the community in a variety of ways and this is just one good deed that happens around the Christmas holidays.  Kirk Driskell, President of Alpharetta Rotary said, “On behalf of the Alpharetta Rotarians, our club is made up of people with giving hearts and they all quickly see the need to help children not only have gifts at Christmas, but to be able to help the kids buy something for their loved ones”.
"The smiles and excitement as these kids shop is a priceless experience.  Knowing you made a big difference in their holiday is incredibly rewarding to all the policemen and firemen who volunteer to help" said Jim Paine, PAL Board Member.  This annual event starts at 6:00 PM Tuesday December 8 at Wal-Mart located at Highway 9 and Windward Parkway.
